How To Fix A Washer That Vibrates And Shakes

A washer that vibrates and shakes isn't just a nuisance, it can also affect the performance of a wash.

What do you do? The best way to fix this is by ensuring your washer is installed properly and on a level solid floor.

As part of your Tenancy Agreement, undertaking minor repairs and maintenance to the property includes checking and fixing a washer that vibrates or shakes. You may think that fixing a wobbly washer seems like too much trouble but in fact, it is simple to do. Of course, you can call a contractor to do it but this will likely cost £80 upwards.

The video and the guide below provide the basic steps you can use for any brand of washer.

Levelling Your Washer to Prevent Vibrations

To make sure your washer is standing correctly, adjust the feet under the machine, one at a time. Start with the lowest setting of the foot screw and adjust all around the four feet to get your washer properly levelled. Tip: get a friend or family member to help you move your washer around---safety first.

If your floor isn’t level or made of concrete, then you may need to shim the washer feet with cardboard or something similar. Or, you can install anti-vibration pads under your washer. These pads will help reduce vibrations and noise. You can find these pads at your local home improvement store. They are easy to use and install and may help reduce the shakes and vibrations to a minimum.

Lastly, be sure to recheck that your washer is level from time to time, as floors can settle over time and cause your once-level washing machine to become unbalanced once again.

Keeping Your Washer Steady For A Longer Working Life

A wobbly or unstable washer can cause it to vibrate and shake and even crawl out of its space. It can also affect your washer's spin performance and longevity.

By following these simple steps, you may be able to reduce the vibrations and shakes of your washer without having to call a professional.

But if you find that checking and fixing a washer that does not spin has not been successful, please contact us on 01522503717 and we will be able to send out a contractor. However, if the repair needed falls under your responsibility as a tenant then you will be charged for the work.

Reminder That You May Be Charged - Where our contractor has arranged a time with you to attend and you postpone, cancel, or don't show up or where it is your fault for the appointment not proceeding you will be responsible for paying the call-out charge for the contractor and potentially any restocking fee for parts. Where the fault, issue or damage, is put down to your or other tenants, permitted occupiers, or guests' actions, you will be responsible for paying for the repair. These terms are already part of your Tenancy Agreement.
